The Sky by Welsh Night ⎸ An Unmissable Experience

World renowned star gazing right here in Powys

Astronomy and star gazing are becoming ever more popular in the UK, but it’s often difficult to find the right location. Maybe you’ve tried a bit of star gazing in your local area, but there’s just too much light pollution? Powys is the place to be!

Covering much of mid-Wales, the rural nature of Powys makes it perfect for seeing the stars. Powys is home two two internationally recognised Dark Sky areas – the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Elan Valley have both been awarded special statuses by the International Dark Sky Association. Between them both you will find some of the best star gazing in the UK.

We’re also home to the National Near Earth Objects Information Centre

Powys is also home to the National Near Earth Objects Information Centre or ‘Spaceguard’ – the UK’s primary source of information relating to near Earth objects. It is a working observatory situated in a dark sky area of Powys that is open to all the family.

If you’re a fan of all things space, or even just a fan of the odd asteroid movie, then Spaceguard is certainly worth a visit!
